A new half day TIE programme for key stage 1 (4 or 5 years old)
Sometimes she wanted to open it, reach inside and touch. On really bad days she wanted to crawl inside it and hide. Sometimes just shut it out of her mind, keep the lid on it. But the Suitcase was always there. It was always there and it was always a reminder of who she was and where she came from. Sometimes that made her happy. Sometimes sad and sometimes…she didn’t know how to feel about it.
Every suitcase holds a story. For this little girl it holds the most important story of her life, but she doesn’t know how to tell it.
Using story, theatre and participatory drama with a team of highly skilled actors Suitcase will take your children into this young girl’s world. An opportunity to develop skills of enquiry and communication, speaking and listening, this TIE programme will create the space for your children to use the imagination to explore how it feels to be ‘foreign’ and what it means to be at home in the world. Above all, it will be an invitation for the children to test and make their own values.
Big Brum is internationally renowned for its work with and for young people of all ages.
The programme will be touring schools from February to July 2010.
