A WindowBig Brum in Palestine

In January 2010, Big Brum was delighted to present A Window, its new play by Edward Bond, in Ramallah in the Palestine.

The Compnay was invited by the Qattan Foundation, to perform over the course of six days, to:

  • 13 to 15 year old Palestinian children from four schools, one from Ramallah, one from Jerusalem, one from Bethleham and one from Nazareth.
  • A public performance in the Al-Kasaba theatre to around 100 people.
  • A performanec to an invited audience of over 200 teachers from around Palestine.

The reception the Company got was remarkable. In the words of Artistic Director, Chris Cooper:
"I think it was because they felt it expressed something critical about their lives ... It became a really valuable tool for them."

The young people were eloquant in their comment on the impact the programme had on their lives:
"It opened lots of doors in my mind, it makes me think in another way, in a deeper way, it opened my eyes deep inside"

An interview on the porgramme was held with the Birmingham Post, which sums up the Company's experience:

The event was of profound importance to the Company and Big Brum hopes this will be the beginning of steady work in Palestine. Watch this space for more news and reports.
