On 5th October 2010 Big Brum Theatre in Education was delighted to receive an award from Action for Children's Arts.
Action for Children's Arts is a national charity and membership organisation which holds at its heart Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: "Every child has the right to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts."
At a ceremony held in London, Action for Children’s Arts awarded Big Brum a Members' Award for 2010. This was presented to Big Brum for "the outstanding contribution their work makes to [Action for Children’s Arts] aim of enriching children’s lives through the arts".
Big Brum received the award from Shirley Hughes and was delighted to meet and chat with young people's champions such as Philip Pullman, Jacqueline Wilson, Shirley Hughes and Peter Duncan. Big Brum fully supports Action for Children's Arts commitment to art for young people, and believes its voice is a vital one at this time.
