The themes of Touched

Touched will be exploring a rich seam of themes for students and teachers including birth and death, love and hate, knowledge and ignorance. At present these are the main themes coming from the play’s centre, which, says author Chris Cooper:

"I think is looking at the commoditisation of daily life including lives themselves.  A society that can no longer protect its children can no longer protect its future."

The play draws on the experience of the 2011 riots in Birmingham and many other cities.

Chris Cooper: "The play pivots on a central moment in the first part of the play, set against the background of rioting and looting. Society is in chaos and complete civil disorder. Society's values have been distorted."
